Government agencies and government-funded organizations need to be Section 508 compliant and require your product to disclose its accessibility level using a VPAT. Our service also includes an ACR (Accessibility Conformance Report). You'll need a VPAT if your organization meets one of the below:

  • What is a VPAT?

    A VPAT is a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template. Simply put, it’s a document that lists a set of criteria for businesses to voluntarily assess and report on the accessibility of their website.

  • Which types of VPAT do you provide?

    We can accommodate the following VPAT versions: WCAG, Section 508, Revised Section 508, EN 301549, and International (INT).

  • How often should I update a VPAT?

    Your VPAT should be updated when your website undergoes a redesign or when major new content is added. Otherwise, it should be renewed annually.

  • Should my company create the VPAT?

    No. VPAT is a template created and maintained by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITIC) website. You'll use the VPAT to produce an ACR (Accessibility Conformance Report).

  • Do we need to redo the VPAT if accessibility issues are found?

    No. VPAT does neither require, nor demonstrate full 100% compliance. Instead, it discloses the accessibility level or product transparently, including known issues.

  • How long is the turnaround time?

    VPAT projects usually take a week longer than an expert audit project because they include an expert audit project as part of the process.

  • I was told I need a VPAT, but I don’t understand why?

    If you work for a government agency or are entering a contract with a company that does, for them to keep 508 compliance, they will require a VPAT from you.

  • Is there a minimum VPAT score needed for compliance?

    There is no requisite score for compliance or for the VPAT to be considered compliant.

  • Which types of legislation is a VPAT necessary for?

    VPAT is necessary for compliance with Section 508. Therefore if your business is or does business with a government agency, you will need a VPAT.
